Dental Hygiene and You!

We recommend 6 month exam and prophylaxis intervals for most patients. These procedures are preventive in nature. For patients who have gum disease scaling and root planing is recommended. We also work with a local periodontist to treat patients who have gum disease that does not respond to treatment, or gum tissue recession.

Exams

Exams include a comprehensive oral cancer screening, periodontal examination ( to check for existing gum disease), and an examination of teeth for decay.

Prophylaxis (Basic Cleaning)

A prophylaxis includes the removal of local irritants, such as tarter, stain and plaque, from soft tissue and teeth.

Scaling & Root Planing (Deep Cleaning)

Scaling & Root Planing is a therapeutic procedure designed to treat existing gum disease and create a healthy oral environment.

We utilize modern equipment and techniques, including hand scaling and ultrasonic scalers based on patient needs and comfort levels. Also, both topical and local anesthetic are available for continual patient comfort.
